Energy efficiency of angelini fine chemicals plant
Energy Saving is one way that allows companies to be eco-friendly. For this reason, Angelini Fine Chemicals has decided, since long time, to make investments in order to take the route of eco-sustainability. Saving and efficient use of energy are in fact strategic objectives that reduce business costs with a positive effect also on the environmental impact and carbon footprint.
The three macro-areas of intervention, aimed at preserving the environment, on which the company has decided to invest in 2019 are:
- LED lighting
For what concerns lighting, the activities will be focused on the change of fluorescence technology with LED type. This activity is necessary in order to upgrade the energy efficiency of the site. The use of LED technology has started some years ago, on new facilities building and revamping. The Company has then decided to complete this activity in order to upgrade the lighting system of almost the entire plant. In fact, LED lamps are more efficient in terms of quality / price for many aspects as per the type of light, the higher colour reproduction fidelity, the cost saving and long lifetime. The replacement of the existing neon tube lighting with the new technology of LED tubes, therefore constitutes an intervention of obvious energy savings with a guarantee of comfort and compliance with current regulations on safety for workers.
Angelini Fine Chemicals has decided also to focus on the investment in renewable energy sources, by means of the installation of a 100 kW photovoltaic system on the flat roofs of the available workshop of the site. The installation of a photovoltaic system is an ecological and environmentally friendly choice that allows the use of solar energy to produce electricity. In fact, photovoltaic systems reduce the demand for energy from other traditional sources, contributing to the reduction in atmospheric pollution.
Finally, the last investment involves the installation of a cogeneration system of about 850 kWe. Cogeneration is a process that leads to the combined production of both electricity and heat. In particular, the new system, sized according to the actual energy requirement of the site, will be used to produce electricity and steam with an increase in energy efficiency by saving fuel and at the same time reducing emissions of pollutants and of greenhouse gases.
With these combined systems, Angelini Fine Chemicals plants will produce around 40% of the
thermal energy and 84% of the electricity needed, while increasing illumination of 100% of almost all areas.
